Since when have appliances been a bad gift?

I mean possibly, giving ‘kitchen’ appliances to your wife would be a big No No, unless she specifically requested such a gift.

But kitchen appliances don’t necessarily mean, pots and pans, or a new set of cooking utensils that will make your special someone feel like they belong in the kitchen any longer than they already are. It’s more so getting creative and finding what fun and useful appliances there are out there.

Here are some great creative appliances that you can get and use together!

“After shopping and researching many different models and stores that carry ice makers, I stumbled upon Air & Water ice machines. I looked at many reviews, and viewed pictures that went along with the item descriptions, and decided that for the price, these machines seemed to have the best quality and value for the qualities my husband was looking for in an ice machine…”

7 Tips on After Christmas Sales Shopping

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

christmas picture edit 1024x680 7 Tips on After Christmas Sales Shopping

After the eggnog is finished and the stockings hang emptied, you’ll probably find yourself wishing for a last bit of holiday cheer.

Thankfully, there are the after Christmas sales. After Christmas is a great time to head over to the mall or your favorite retail store for some bargain holiday shopping. Take in the wintery decorations and spruced up store fronts one last time before they disappear!

Here are our top 7 tips to help you avoid any sales pitfalls and nab the best after Christmas deals this year.

1. Plan ahead

Make sure you go in with a plan and stick to it as much as you can. Do your research ahead of time to see what kind of items are on sale, and which ones may not be the best deals of the year. Clothes, accessories, and seasonal products will most likely be on huge sale, while electronic gadgets and products won’t be. After Christmas sales are a great way to stock up on holiday-related things you can use next year, since these items tend to be the most heavily discounted.

2. Don’t assume you’re getting a deal

End of the year sales are a way for stores to push out old inventory and make way for new things. But just because it’s Christmas, don’t assume retailers are giving you the best price. Sometimes it’s a good idea to compare items selling at similar stores to see which retailer is offering the best price. Luckily, the Internet makes this super easy to do.

3. Watch the Return Policy

Since stores use Christmas sales as a way to push out large amounts of their products, they won’t want to see a lot of it being returned. Many retailers will institute special return policies to discourage you from bringing anything back. Watch out for sale items that are non-returnable, and make sure that whatever you buy is something you truly want to keep.

4. Shop Online

If just thinking about the lines and parking at the mall gives you a headache, you can generally get the same bargain shopping done on your computer, from the comfort of your home! Online retailers have customer service lines you can call if you ever need help, so any questions or concerns that come up can be quickly addressed.

Sometimes you’ll have to pay for this convenience with added shipping costs, but many sites offer special promotions that will let you ship for free during this special week of savings. Check out air-n-water.com to see what we’re offering this year.

5. Look for early bird specials

Hitting the stores early in the morning will not only help you beat the crowds, it may score you some additional savings. Many stores have early bird specials and will offer freebies, huge discounts, or limited stocks of products for the first few buyers of the day. If you can, go shopping on Dec. 26th, since by the end of the week everything will be picked over, and some of the better items may already be sold out. Always check and plan your shopping time ahead – the earlier you shop, the better.

6. Don’t get too spend-happy

After Christmas Sales can offer amazing deals you should take advantage of, but don’t drop serious cash just because you’ll be saving so much more. Though that sweater may be tempting at 40% off, if you already have one in another color, there may not be a reason to buy another. The rule of thumb is to only buy things on sale you would still buy at normal price.

7. Use coupons and gift cards

Coupons are everywhere. There are tons of online sites dedicated to collecting printable coupons for almost every retailer out there, so check them out. Now would also be a great time to use your Christmas gift card, before you have the chance to misplace it (hey, we’ve all done it before).

Now that you’re armed with knowledge, cash and hopefully a small stash of gift cards, it’s time to go forth and fight the crowds for some glorious After Christmas Sales!

What stores are you hitting up this year?

Cough, Cold or Flu? Try an All-Natural Home Remedy

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

woman with cold Cough, Cold or Flu? Try an All Natural Home Remedy

If you’re suffering from nasal congestion, dry cough, sinus irritation or dry skin, skip the over-the-counter medications and try something all-natural.

Here are some of our favorite home remedies that may help you out when you’re feeling a bit under the weather.

Blow your nose often

It may sometimes be tempting to sniffle and suck back in all that mucus, but getting rid of that germy mess is the right way to go. Blowing too hard can cause an earache, so press one finger over one side and gently blow out the other. Wash your hands every time you blow your nose.

Gargle salt water or drink hot tea

Gargling can moisten a sore throat, bringing you temporary relief. Gargle with salty water four times a day.

Drinking hot tea with honey will help relieve nasal congestion and prevent dehydration. It’ll soothe the uncomfortably inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat.

Apply a hot or cold pack around your congested sinuses

Either of these temperatures may help you feel more comfortable. Reusable packs are sold at drugstores, or you can opt to make your own. Heat a damp washcloth in the microwave for about 55 seconds for a hot pack. Use a small bag of frozen peas in place of a cold pack.

Use a humidifier to make the air more breathable

Symptoms from cold or flu are the most bothersome when you’re trying to fall asleep, so place a humidifier by your bedside, prop an extra pillow under your head, and feel your sinuses start to clear.

Humidifiers will moisturize your nasal passages and relax you. They emit water vapor or mist to increase moisture levels, and come in a variety of sizes.

The most affordable and convenient type of humidifier is a portable, single room use humidifier that can be placed on any tabletop.

crane drop humidifier Cough, Cold or Flu? Try an All Natural Home RemedyCool mist humidifiers are safe to use in a child’s bedroom and can cover a decently sized room. They’re the cheaper option and more energy-efficient, since no heating element is needed. On the downside, bacteria will accumulate if the unit isn’t regularly maintained.

Warm mist humidifiers are extremely soothing during the cold or flu system. They use steam to add moisture to the air. Since water is boiled in warm mist humidifiers, mold and bacteria usually don’t have the chance to grow. You must be very careful not to knock over a warm mist humidifier, since the heat can be very dangerous.

The optimum humidity level in a house is generally between 35 to 40 percent. While humidifiers aren’t miracle workers, they should help reduce the symptoms you feel when suffering from cold, flu and even allergies.

Stay rested

Help your immune system out and stay in bed as much as possible so all your energy is directed to the immune battle. Take advantage of your precarious condition and get your friends or family to cook dinner, and maybe even help out with some chores. You’re trying to fight a war, after all.

Natural home remedies will make your life more comfortable without those drowsy medications. They’re easy to do and safe, and will make breathing and falling asleep much easier!

Seeking the Perfect Picnic Date

bunnies picnic Seeking the Perfect Picnic Date

Scenic grassy knoll? Got it! Spacious patterned blanket? Check! The most important component is a loaded picnic basket filled with lunchtime edibles. Regardless of who’s in attendance, giant deli subs, chilled soda, and some home-baked goodies are guaranteed to vanish in a flash. There’s something about eating out in the fresh air that makes everything tastier. Perhaps competition from armies of ants makes lunch even more delectable. Picnicking is a dying art! Step it up by suggesting a picnic instead of your typical lunch spot or café. Picnics are a charming alternative for practically any type of rendezvous.

Coffee Date

Instead of meeting up at a café to catch up, bring a tumbler filled with hot coffee to share. Rather than jockeying for a table with wired laptop patrons, you can relax outside on a breezy park bench. This Picnic Time coffee tote packs up all the supplies for a coffee picnic, holding containers for milk & sugar, spoons, and cloth napkins. The petite backpack contains a 24 oz. stainless steel flask and pair of mugs. An added bonus: outdoors there’s no need to shout over fizzing espresso machines or the modern-alt soundtrack.

Play Date

Take your children and their friends on a whimsical picnic for their next play date! Kids will adore a classic wicker basket inspired by fairytale splendor. The Picnic Time Somerset picnic basket has leather bands to strap on a fleece blanket. They’re never too young to experience the highbrow-lowbrow contrast of eating from china plates while sitting in a public park. Plus, parks with playgrounds offer diversion in between bites of sandwich. The mommy-blogosphere has dozens kid-friendly food ideas, like PB & banana sandwiches shaped like a heart using a cookie-cutter.

Real Date

Picnics are a quintessential date. They offer plenty of one-on-one face time, while the novelty of an outdoor setting keeps it interesting. The work involved in preparing a picnic comes in handy for wooing a special someone. Planning a picnic adds an element of impressiveness, so your date leaves feeling pampered…and hopefully enamored. What could be a more enchanting than courtship while perched on a tartan blanket beneath a tree? Vinotemp makes a leather wine knapsack with space for stemware and two wine bottles. Pack a bottle of bubbly to share to take the romance quota even further!

Wedding Gifts for Newlyweds Planning a Big Move

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Wedding gifts can cause anxiety because of the pressure of imparting your soon to be married pair with something they’ll use—and hopefully love! You’ve combed through their registry, fished for hints from relatives, searched every store in the mall, and still nothing seems quite right. Air & Water’s catalog includes some wedding gift choices that stray slightly from the beaten path of linens and dish sets. Rather than going for yet another round at Pottery Barn, shop for wedding gifts online to gift a truly memorable item. This guide recommends wedding gift ideas designed to help out the blooming couple with their plans to move or relocate after saying their vows.

Moving on up!

Newlyweds often upgrade their living spaces when they seal the deal, moving out of apartments into larger condos or houses. This bump in square footage accommodates more specialty appliances. The ample counter and storage space just beckons to be filled. Lovebirds cozying up to domesticity can get in touch with their inner Martha Stewart with a bread maker! The Breadman TR520 bread machine pictured makes two pound loaves. Bread machines, slow cookers, food slicers, and other kitchen appliances will inspire those who are already inclined to cooking and baking.

Relocating to a dry area

Is the new couple planning a big move move to a hot, dry, or arid climate after tying the knot? Particularly if this is a drastic change in environment, you can forecast by choosing a wedding gift that will ease the change in weather. Humidifiers add moisture to the air to keep relative humidity at a comfortable level, between 30-50%. Properly moisturized air will keep their skin and respiratory system quenched, so their first days of matrimony will be blissfully moisturized. Try a sleek humidifier like the Stadler Form Fred below for couples moving to the Southwest or desert regions.

Relocating to a colder area

If the new couple is moving to a chillier region, you can help prepare them for this glacial shift in temperature. Supplemental heating from space heaters or electric fireplaces provides additional warmth to keep it cozy indoors. Choosing a heating appliance as a wedding gift will ease the adjustment to a more arctic zone. After the honeymoon, the couple can curl up beside the hearth. The imitation logs are more than a simple prop on this Dimplex electric fireplace, with flame effects and glowing embers that echo a lifelike fire. The newlywed couple will be grateful you anticipated the cold weather on their behalf–almost as much as they’ll enjoy cuddling by a faux wood burning fireplace!

Couples with wanderlust

Are your betrothed friends the cultured type? Give a cosmopolitan couple a wine cooler to stash their wine collection.
Wine coolers are especially fitting if they’re honeymooning in Napa Valley, France, or Italy. The pair can shop for wines to fill their wine refrigerator when they return. Most longtime oenophiles probably have an existing wine cellar set up of some variety. Wine coolers are suited for adventurers, foodies, travelers, and epicureans alike. A wine cooler is a wedding gift for educated, sophisticated friends.
